It looks big. Very, very big. This “jumbo gyoza” (a Japanese dumpling known as pot sticker) sells for 9600 Yen, which is US $110 at today’s exchange rates. If you happen to find yourself in Tokyo with a large group of extremely hungry friends, make your way to the Iidabashi district. Take a right after exiting the main gate of the JR Iidabashi Station and walk to the main street . You’ll find this restaurant on the opposite side.
omg delicious!
And if you take home the leftovers, you won’t have to cook for a month.
On my way, right now.
ok, not really. But what is it with the Japanese obsession with HUGE portions. They have tv shows dedicated to it but it’s not like they can eat it all.
I know. I blame that hot dog inhaling freak of nature…I can’t be bothered to look up his name, but you know who I mean–he’s like your size and can eat my weight in hot dogs.
Wow, that’s so expensive. We had a double plate of baozi tonight for RMB 8 ;-).
But were your baozi the size of a small car?
Wow, that looks huge. I wonder how long it would take to it?
To eat it? A few weeks, maybe…I don’t know. I know I’d get pretty sick of it long before it was gone, though.
Yes, sorry I meant “to eat it”. Typo error on my part.
I thought that the Japanese liked everything small. But I suppose its going to be different with food. What are these dumplings made of?
They do usually like the dumplings small. This was the only time I saw one that big. Generally, they’re filled with pork, cabbage, chives, sesame oil, garlic and maybe ginger, but I’m not sure if such a big dumpling would taste good with the same fillings, since the ratio of wrapper to filling is important.
